About Malik

I didn’t set out to be a change instigator. My initial goal was simply to create opportunities for women to move their bodies without the layer of self-loathing that seemed to permeate the spaces I found myself in. Gyms were all about getting smaller and throwing shade on the current state of the body. Dance studios were all about being smaller and competing against the person standing next to you. Even Yoga studios weren’t really safe though mostly because their inhabitants spent time in gyms and dance studios and brought their baggage with them into class.

I wanted another option and, when I didn’t find it out in the world…I made it myself.

Now, over 20 years after teaching my first dance class, I am a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500, YACEP), Dance Teacher (Certified Datura Style), and movement instructor working to change the world. I see the negative impact of Diet Culture, and how pervasive its messaging is, and want to be part of rewriting the script. I see how much strength and wisdom is in the people around me and want to be an amplifier. I see the power of movement and want to make it truly accessible.
